The leader of the Monroe County Daily News Express is recovering at U.T. Medical Center Monday after being hit head-on in a car wreck in Greenback.

According to T.H.P., William Daniel Hall, 31 was hit head-on by Nicholas Steffa, 41 of Sweetwater. Troopers indicated in their report that Steffa may have been impaired when he was driving. They said charges are pending against Steffa.

Meanwhile, the newspaper Hall owns and works on daily is on hold as staffers reorganize their priorities.

"Because all the family is up at the hospital right now and they put together the paper at night," said ad manager Shelly Montoya. "Then they deliver the paper; they deliver the paper themselves."

In some Madisonville gas stations and convenience stores, empty spaces can be found, where the Daily News Express would normally be located.

"Several people have been asking about it today, asking why is it out and what had happened," said Sloan's B.P. employee Savonna Woods.

Hall is expected to survive the wreck. He has hand and leg injuries.  Staffers said he was last listed in critical condition.

The newspaper is expected to be on hold for at least the next few days, as staffers add Hall's responsibilities to their already full plates.

"I want to help Dan out and if that means plugging in my two-cents, helping write the paper, then I'll do that," ad manager Montoya said.

They expect the newspaper to begin printing again by week's end.
