The Knoxville Area Rescue Ministry shelter has been busy due to the chilly weather.
The KARM shelter housed 218 men Monday night, exceeding their 200-person capacity.
While KARM expects this trend during the winter months, Marketing Manager Sue Renfro says an uptick in those who need a place to sleep doesn't usually happen in early October.
Despite larger numbers, earlier than usual, Renfro says they are prepared to meet the needs of Knoxville's homeless population
"We have not needed to turn anyone away, we are prepared for needs, but its just an earlier increase than usual in the fall, probably due to the colder weather," said Renfro.
