The salon at Knoxville's Virginia College in Fountain City is now open for customers.
Thursday evening, school officials and students were on hand to officially open the salon to the public.
Cosmetology students have been working in the salon since March preparing for the opening. The school's president says it's a big step in getting students ready for their future jobs. They're jobs he says need to be filled by skilled workers in our community.
"I think the important thing is that we'll only offer a program if there's a need. Based on our marketing research, there's definitely a need. There's jobs out there to be filled," said Jim Branham.
Virginia College School of Business and Health also offers two-year degrees in medical assisting, network engineering, and business. Their first class will graduate next summer.
