A Clinton man is dead after a routine traffic stop turned into a foot chase and scuffle with an Anderson County Sheriff's deputy Saturday morning.

The TBI has identified 30-year-old Randall Kyle Wilcox of Clinton as the man shot in the scuffle.

The TBI says the investigation is open and will be turned over to the DA when it is completed.

Previous story

A routine traffic stop led to a deadly shooting in Anderson County Saturday morning.

It happened just after 10 a.m. in the 600 block of Pine Ridge Road in the Marlow community.

It started with a routine traffic stop, according to Sheriff Paul White and District Attorney General Dave Clark.

An Anderson County deputy initiated the stop, and the driver complied, pulling off the road into a driveway.

Officials say the driver immediately ran from the car, and the deputy chased the suspect into a nearby wooded area.

During a scuffle, officials say somehow, which has yet to be determined exactly how, the driver was shot and killed.

The deputy was injured during the altercation and was transported to Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge with non-life threatening injuries.  He has been treated and has now been released.

The deputy involved is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is currently searching for the suspect's identity.  TBI is asking people, who have any information on the suspect, to call Anderson County Sheriff's office at 865-463-6880.

This investigation remains ongoing and will be turned over to the DA when completed.

Saturday's shooting comes less than a year after another officer-involved shooting in Anderson County.

Back on Feb. 29, Michael Joseph Baker and Shanna Lee Richardson, of Indiana, were shot and killed in the Claxton community after a high-speed chase.

An investigation later determined that the two, who were driving a stolen pickup truck, were under the influence of bath salts, which can lead to violent and erratic behavior.

The officers involved were cleared in that shooting.
