Several lawsuits have been filed against the school system following a bus crash last month that sent more than two dozen students to the hospital.
The bus overturned on September 20 in the Telford community in Washington County.
Five lawsuits, representing seven students who were on the bus that day, are seeking a combined $500,000 in damages. The complaints list the Washington County Board of Education, not the bus driver Brenda Gray, as the defendant.
"We have heard some evidence that there was the possibility of some conduct that they should've screened her better. But even if that's not the case, they're still responsible for her actions," said Attorney Robert Bates.
Gray is facing dozens of charges in the incident. Attorneys say they expect several more lawsuits in the coming days.
WCYB-TV in the Tri-Cities tried to reach out to the Washington County school system's attorney, but were unable to reach him.
