Whole air conditioning units are disappearing in Maryville.
According to the Maryville Police Department, AC units started vanishing in July. However, the thieves have been extra busy the past few weeks according to officers.
In three months, eight units have been stolen in city limits. The criminals are targeting businesses and homes.
AC repairmen said thieves cash the equipment in at scrap yards and receive anywhere from $50 to $75 per unit.
"They're taking the outside unit, but what it's causing is the business owners have to replace half of the inside too because of the new freon," said Brad Gomez with Roger Newman Heating and Cooling.
Gomez's company replaced four stolen AC units this week in Maryville.
Maryville PD said they do have suspects, but no arrests have been made.
