Visitors can now enjoy the winter wonderland in Newfound Gap.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park rangers reopened Highway 441 (Newfound Gap Rd.) shortly after 1 pm on Wednesday. It has been closed since more than two feet of snow fell in the higher elevations of the Smokies this week.
The view from the top is always incredible, but now, it's even more so with all that snow. Visitors were waiting at the gate to drive up to see the snow.
Newfound Gap Rd. closes frequently in the winter time because park officials do not use salt to treat the roads, because they do not want to damage the environment.
