Friday was the last day for some members of the Visit Knoxville board, because new members will start next month after a new contract was awarded by Knox County and the City of Knoxville.
The group formerly known as the Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation will change from 24 members to eleven.
The board voted to approve that new marketing contract with the city and county. Visit knoxville is responsible for marketing our area for the next twenty months.
Under that contract, the board must move to an eleven member group. The county gets to appoint six members, the city three, and then two independent people will be picked.
President Kim Bumpas says this is a great step forward, and will bring more transparency to Visit Knoxville, but at the same time, she appreciates the board members who spent the last ten months in transition.
"It was a bittersweet day, but everyone was very much a team and very open to the process and very willing to step up and do what they needed to do for the good of Visit Knoxville and I think that's just a really great thing to be a part of," said Bumpas.
The new board should be in place by their December meeting.
