As relief efforts continue in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy, some Knox County students are giving back.

Friday, Bearden Middle schoolers got to wear a hat to school for $2.
That donation goes to the Red Cross to help victims along the northeast coast.

A Bearden Middle art teacher is a native New Yorker, and helped organize the fundraiser.

"I found that I have two friends that lost their homes and I found I have a lot of friends that have a lot of problems right now over in New York, with gas, with food, with electricity, and my heart really goes out to them. And I gave a few dollars, but it's really never enough," says Michael Weininger.

Weininger says they raised about $450 dollars and hopes other schools in the area will join their efforts.
