Just about 2 hours away from Knoxville sits Asheville, North Carolina. Home of the Blue Ridge Parkway, a beautiful downtown and America's most famous home,The Biltmore Estate.
Built by tycoon George Vanderbilt as an escape from everyday life, thousands visit the home each and every year to stand in wonder of the 8,000 acre estate nestled in the mountains of Asheville.
One of the most popular times to visit the estate is during the Christmas holidays when they offer Candlelight tours. The main home on the estate is decked out for the holidays. Kathy Barnhardt, the floral displays manager, says they plan year-round for the decorations and many of them are made by hand.
Some of the greenery and trees are replaced throughout the season so that all the visitors may enjoy the same beauty. The tree now up in the dining hall is from Roan Mountain here in Tennessee.
