A member of law enforcement, charged with helping the community, now needs help himself.
This week, Deputy Sam Wilhoit with the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office lost his home and all his family's belongings in a house fire. Authorities say Wilhoit was actually on patrol when he got the call.
Crews believe the fire started in electrical panel box.
Wilhoit's wife and 4-year-old son were not home when the fire started.
"It could have been my family in there and then I would have lost more than just stuff," said Wilhoit.
Clothing donations are already coming in to the sheriff's department, but the family needs financial assistance for long-term needs, including a new home.
Any assistance will be accepted at the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office at:
Attention: Sam Wilhoit
117 Justice Center Drive

Checks must be made out to Sam Wilhoit. Gift cards to businesses as Wal-Mart, Target and Grocery Stores will also be beneficial.
