Burglary suspect in officer-involved shooting is in stable condition

Update: Knoxville Police say the burglary suspect who was shot by police, Charles Duggan, is in stable condition at UT Medical Center on Monday.

A suspect has been shot by police officers, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

Officials say officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 2:44 Friday afternoon reporting what the caller believed to be a burglary in progress near Eldridge Road in Fountain City.

The caller was able to provide a description of the suspect and the suspect's vehicle.

Officers found 44-year-old Charles Duggan in his vehicle at a gas station on Broadway.

After a short pursuit, Duggan pulled into a driveway, then tried to run over three police officers who were out of their vehicles.

The three officers opened fire, and Duggan was struck more than once. He has been transported to UT Medical Center to receive treatment.

There is currently no word on his condition.

Duggan has been charged with one count of aggravated assault. Police say he may face more charges as the investigation continues.

He has a past criminal record that includes multiple burglary and theft charges.
