A Blount County deputy has been released from the hospital emergency room after being hit by a car while working another accident Tuesday morning.
Sheriff James Lee Berrong said Deputy James Patty, 44, had responded to an accident on on U.S. Highway 411 South near Brickmill Road around 6:15 am. He was standing in the left lane when a vehicle struck him around 6:45 am. He was transported to UT Medical Center for treatment of a knee injury.
The driver that hit Deputy Patty was cited for violating Tennessee's "Move Over Law." The law states that a driver must move over a lane if possible or slow down when emergency responders are present on the roadway.
Another person was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries from the original accident that Deputy Patty was responding to.
A Blount County Sheriff's Deputy was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Tuesday morning after he was struck by a vehicle at the scene of a previous accident.
The Blount County Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman says the deputy was on Highway 411 near Brick Mill Road in Maryville when he was hit.
We are told he received minor injuries to his hands and was taken to the UT Medical Center.
