The state has concluded the presentation of its murder case against a Washington County man in the death of his toddler son.
The Johnson City Press reported 29-year-old Christopher Mitchell entered guilty pleas to lesser charges of evidence tampering and identity theft as his trial began this week.
Heather Bible, formerly Heather Mitchell, testified for the prosecution Tuesday, saying she never saw her 2-year-old son Jacob climb to get into cabinets.
Christopher Mitchell told investigators the couple's son had taken his handgun from a cabinet above the kitchen range before accidentally shooting himself to death.
Earlier Tuesday, jurors heard a weapons expert testify the pistol found outside the motel where the family lived matched the bullet taken from the child's body and a shell casing found in the room.
