With Hollywood's winter blockbuster "The Hobbit" close to release, Pellissippi State took the chance to turn it into a teaching opportunity.

"A Hobbit's Holiday" is the fourth of this year's faculty lecture series and focused on the lessons Bilbo Baggins learns throughout the prequel to the wildly popular "Lord of the Rings" series.

Associate English Professor Keith Norris gave the lecture, saying Tolkien's novel had a profound impact on his life. Norris says he hopes to pass that impact on to a younger generation.

"I want kids to grow into something where they have the creative ability and critical ability to do as they need to do rather than simply be trained in a certain skill, they have the creativity to face whatever," said Norris.

Norris says "The Hobbit" shows us we can use creativity to face our own bullies and enemies, and talk our way out of almost any unpleasant situation.
