The situation in Connecticut hit extremely close to home for one area school. So much so that teachers re-arranged an event that has been planned for months.

First responders visited Clinton High Wednesday to talk to students about preparing for emergencies during school hours. The school planned to have a full-scale disaster drill that included actors playing dead.

But teachers, along with students, felt that kind of thing just isn't appropriate right now.

"We felt as if, out of respect for the people of Newtown, that we would cancel it because we felt it was just something we should do. We didn't want anyone to be offended or anything like that," said Kennedy Hancock, a senior at Clinton High School and also a first responder student.

Wednesday's guest speakers are tied in with a first responder class taught at the school.
