An East Tennessee preacher who prosecutors say persuaded a mother not to seek medical care for her daughter has died in South Carolina.
The Loudon County District Attorney's office told 10News they were informed of Ariel Ben Sherman's death on Monday. He was living in South Carolina.
Sherman and Jacqueline Crank were convicted in May of misdemeanor neglect in the death of 15-year-old Jessica Crank in September 2002. They were previously charged with felony child neglect.
Sherman called himself the teen's "spiritual father" and urged Jacqueline Crank to rely on faith for her daughter's recovery from cancer.
