From donating your time to donating clothing or furniture, lots of East Tennesseans are making room for the new.

People are using the time between Christmas and the new year to clean out their closets and homes. Goodwill Industries in Knoxville says it's seen a big influx in donations from an already generous community.

"We have a huge amount of clothes coming in, toys coming in, anything you can imagine. People are being generous and donating," said Adrienne Hendon.

Some people donating are clearing space for those new Christmas gifts; others are trying to squeeze in last-minute tax deductions. As long as you drop off your items by December 31, you can still collect a tax write-off slip from Goodwill.

There are a few items Goodwill says it needs more of this time of year, including winter items like coats and boots.
