Nearly 900 people hit the pavement in the rain to run in the annual Calhoun's New Year's Day 5-K Tuesday morning.
This was the largest turnout for the race, with 879 people registered before the rain started.
The Knoxville Track Club organized the race and said weather did play a factor in how many people actually showed up to participate. Still organizer Kristy Altman said it was a success and a great start to a healthy new year.
"Everybody gets excited about the new year, their resolutions, they all want to get fit and be healthy, so really this is their start," said Altman. "We have seen a lot of new faces today, people who have never been to a 5-K before."
