A group that gives relief to those affected by Alzheimer's celebrated a special milestone Tuesday.
The Alzheimer's Cafe at The Courtyards Senior Living celebrated their one-year anniversary.
The group meets once a month as a relief for those affected by the disease and their loved ones. People play games, sing karaoke, or just hang out and talk -- anything to enjoy each other's company.
Organizers say the events are needed so people can escape for a few hours and not worry about the disease.
"This is a place they can go and mom and dad can come too. It doesn't matter if mom acts a little off or if dad has a problem because we're all in the same boat and we all understand," said Activities Director Kathy Broggy.
The group was the first of its kind in the southeast, but now similar groups have started popping up elsewhere.
