Congressman Jimmy Duncan (R-TN), family members, marines and first responders honored two fallen Tenn. Marines with a new memorial Sunday.
The USMC Delta Company, based off Alcoa Highway, dedicated a new obstacle course, honoring Cpl. Daniel Greer and Lance Cpl. Frankie Watson, who were both killed overseas.
Delta Company collected donations from local businesses to repair its obstacle course. The company decided to remember their fellow brothers with a carved wood memorial. Family members of Greer and Watson placed dog tags on the memorial in remembrance of their sacrifice.
Stacy Greer said this memorial is going to help their son know his father is a hero.
"It was just so nice. I'm glad a lot of people got to come to it," said Stacy Greer. "Ethan, our son, is going to be able to look back at this stuff, and be like wow my daddy was a hero."
Tenn. Highway Patrol Sgt. Lowell Russell, who helped raise Lance Cpl. Watson, said this memorial will help the community remember the price of our freedoms.
"Stuff like this really brings things into perspective," said Russell. "We truly live in a great country, and we could be here today if it wasn't for the sacrifice the military families have made over the years."
Russell has been recovering from an accident where a tractor trailer slammed into his cruiser back in March.
