Brenda Cox is a longtime fan of the Knoxville Ice Bears who is undergoing chemotherapy treatments. To support their loyal friend, team members developed a unique way to join her in her fight.
The guys on the team consider Brenda to be a surrogate "grandmother", she cooks for them and attends as many games as she can.
Brenda was told that the breast cancer that had been in remission has returned and doctors have put her on intensive chemotherapy treatments. To prepare for the treatments, Brenda was asked to shave her head. That's when her "Boys" stepped up to support her. .
On January 30, Ice Bears Team Captain David Segal and President and General Manager Mike Murray along with other team members, joined Brenda at the Civic Coliseum where stylists from the Color Bar Saloon and Spa shaved their heads.
On January 31, Brenda and Murray talked about the experience and what they all mean to each other.
Brenda, who had just completed a treatment, still managed time to run home before their appearance to bake cookies for her "boys".
February 16 is the Ice Bear's Pink in the Rink which will be even more special for Brenda and the team.
