A former judge who admitted to stealing more than $200,000 dollars is facing a setback.

Former Hawkins County judge James Taylor admitted to forging records for his personal gain back in August, and pleaded guilty to multiple counts of felony theft

A judge sentenced Taylor to three years in prison and 10 years of probation.

Wednesday, Taylor appeared before a hearings officer and asked to be released early.  The officer turned down his request, saying he was in a position of power and should have known better.

The decision now goes to the Board of Parole.  If they support the hearings officer's decision, Taylor will have to serve the remainder of his sentence.
