A West Knoxville church marked a big milestone on Friday.  Third Creek Baptist Church on Western Avenue celebrated its 180th birthday.

The church started on February 8, 1833, and has functioned in the same location ever since.

Over the years, the church has helped started other churches in the area, including First Baptist Church of Knoxville.

Members attribute the church's longevity to their commitment to serving God and the community.

"We've been able to persevere through some hard times. I mean, every church has problems. And we've had two or three times a lot of people have left to form or join another church. But we've been able to keep going because of the faith that our members have in God and also in our community that supports us," said Jack Dixon, a church Deacon and historian.

A couple of the church's original members fought in the Revolutionary War.  The church still has the records for every official business meeting it has ever held.
