Officials in Blount County, Alcoa, and Maryville have an idea that will help animals and save tax dollars.
Right now, Blount County has two animal shelters, one for the county and one for Maryville. This proposal would combine the two.
It's a move county officials say is a win-win for everyone.
"If we can consolidate services, I think it's good for all tax payers. This will put some additional money into the Blount County Animal Center and it will consolidate from two shelters down to one state-of-the-art shelter," said Steve Samples, a Bount County commissioner.
Samples says the new Blount County shelter is ready to accept animals from Maryville as soon as county commission passes the proposal.
