A family of six escaped their mobile home safely after smoke detectors sounded Saturday morning.
Authorities said the fire started around 10 a.m. on the 600 block of Kian Court in Blount County.
Fire officials said crews recently went door to door, checking smoke detectors at the home, as well as the rest of the neighborhood.
Crews said the father re-entered the mobile home, in an attempt to save a kitten. He was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening smoke inhalation.
Officials said one of the four children initially heard the smoke detector go off.
The mobile home was severely damaged, and the American Red Cross was on scene to help the family.
Investigators have not determined what caused the fire.
