Two of the men who were denied retrials in the Christian-Newsom murder cases, plan to appeal.
Both Lemaricus Davidson and Letalvis Cobbins have filed a notice of appeal with the State Court of Criminal Appeals. Davidson filed on February 8, Cobbins on February 15.
The brothers were two of four people convicted in the carjacking, rapes, and murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom in Knox County in 2007. They asked for retrials after the presiding judge, Richard Baumgartner, admitted to a prescription drug addiction during the trials.
Their co-defendants, Vanessa Coleman and George Thomas, were granted new trials. Coleman was convicted a second time in November 2012. Thomas' new trial date has not been set.
