A Newport elementary school is becoming the first heart safe school in Cocke County.
Project ADAM Tennessee trained Edgemont Elementary staff in heart safety. Thursday, they put that knowledge to the test with safety drills. Staff members practiced how to quickly and correctly respond to sudden cardiac arrest.
Project Adam and Children's Hospital also donated an AED to the elementary school.
"Such as big blessing for us to have this opportunity to gain this for our school and not just for the school, but the parents who come in, grandparents who come into ball games, and it is just a blessing. Although education is our number one concern, it is so important to have this to protect lives," said Assistant Principal Nathan Chambers.
All staff and Edgement also received CPR training.
