Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested the former office manager for the Sneedville Utility District for theft Thursday.
A grand jury indicted Connie Renee Mitchell, 42, of Sneedville earlier this week. Mitchell has been charged with one count of theft over $1,000.
The District Attorney General's Office requested a TBI investigation in March 2012, following an audit of the Sneedville in August 2011. The audit discovered that cash funds held at the office were missing and a number of owed payments. The audit also found that Mitchell wrote a number of personal checks from the utility district's accounts. She admitted to investigators that she took money to pay personal bills.
After the investigation, Sneedville Utility District fired Mitchell from her position. Authorities booked Mitchell in the Hancock County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
