As soon as the rain stops, Tennessee Department of Transportation crews will hit the road, to treat for the forecasted snow and ice.
TDOT avoids pretreating the roads when it is raining, because the brine and salt just wash away.
As soon as the showers stop, TDOT will roll out the trucks and work to keep the roads as clear as possible.
"TDOT maintenance crews will be reporting back to work tonight, right around 10 o'clock. They'll be on their routes shortly thereafter and will stay on their routes as long as necessary," said TDOT spokesperson Mark Nagi.
Up to 3 inches is in the forecast for the Cumberland Plateau. The valley areas could see a dusting to an inch, and the mountains are looking at 6-10 inches of snow by Wednesday night.
