Local celebrities served customers Thursday in hopes of getting some big tips for breast cancer.
Komen Knoxville hosted Tips for the Cure at the Aubrey's restaurant on Papermill in West Knoxville. There was a wait for folks who wanted to meet the celebrity servers, which included our own Mike Witcher, Allison Bybee, and Kirsten Horne. All their tip money goes straight to Komen.
Komen officials say events like this are important because breast cancer touches all of us.
"One in eight women will be diagnosed in her lifetime, and the other seven of us will know her, so it's important. The largest risk factor for getting breast cancer is being a female and growing older. It affects everyone-- your mother, your sister, your aunt, your grandmother, your neighbors. Someone will know someone who has breast cancer," said Amy Dunaway.
Money raised will be used for screening, treatment support, and education about breast cancer in our community. Money also goes to cancer research.
