Thursday night, Oliver Springs native and American Idol contestant Janelle Arthur gave a shout out to her East Tennessee hometown, while her fans back home are sending their love to Hollywood.
"Glad she's made it this far to the top 10, and hope that she makes it all the way. Going to enjoy seeing her go through American Idol," said Oliver Springs resident Teresa Bray.
Those watching the show, like Arthur's former classmate Ashley Teague, said the 22-year-old still radiates her hometown pride through the television screen.
"She's always such a sweet and she was always outgoing and always talked to you. Even if she really didn't know you, she was just a sweetheart," Teague said.
While the competition will get tougher from here on out, Arthur's neighbors in Oliver Springs said they're proud of their celebrity, no matter how far she goes.
"This little bitty town and everyone's like 'Oliver Springs' and everyone's like 'where's that at?' But she makes it, and it's her hometown and it's ours too," said Teague. "I'm saying 'you go girl'!"
