South Doyle Middle School broke ground on its new outdoor classroom on Monday.
"It's going to be a stone or paver amphitheater in the hillside, looking over Baker Creek with an intensively planted native plate habitat research area along the creek where the kids can take water samples and learn about ecology and enjoy being outside," said Kathy Hitchcox with the South Woodlawn Neighborhood Association.
A $30,000 grant from Dow Chemical Company helped make the project possible. Perfect Ideas Construction is also helping out.
Many South-Doyle science students were at Monday's groundbreaking. They've been key in creating an outdoor classroom club to support the project.
