Dozens of East Tennessee youth are learning what it takes to be a Marine.

The Knoxville "Young Marine" group is led by the United States Marine Corps.  The members don't have to join the military.  However, they have to follow basic Marine principles and training.

"It's a program for youngsters between the ages of 8 and graduation from high school.  We generally drill about two Saturdays a month," said Virgil Young, Unit Commander for the Knoxville Young Marines.

"You go through the application process.  They, you go through boot camp.  Once you graduate from boot camp, you're a Young Marine and you go through the Young Marine ranks," said 1stSgt Jason Glew with the 4th Combat Engineer Battalion.

Stoney Sharp spent a few hours training with the Young Marines.  Watch the video above to see how he fared.

New recruits are accepted each Spring.  For more information on how to enroll your child, click here.
