Drivers could encounter some traffic around two TVA dams in a couple of weeks, while crews perform maintenance checks.
Right now, TVA is conducting "core drilling" checks on Fort Loudoun Dam and Tellico Dam, which will take about eight weeks to complete.
According to TVA, this work will require some lane closures. One lane of Highway 321 will be closed at the dam starting at 8:00 p.m. on April 5 through noon on April 8.
In Kingston, one lane of Highway 70 will be closed at the Kingston Dike from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on April 7.
Officials scheduled road closures to begin this weekend, but the forecast for rain delayed those plans until two weeks from now.
TVA said it's now drilling in other areas that don't require any road closures.
The drilling is part of regular maintenance to make sure the dam is safe.
"Our dams are 50-100 years old so we constantly do maintenance inspections and stay on top of them and assure they stay stable and safe," said Chuck Bach, TVA's River Scheduling General Manager.
