Geology of Ijams and Quarries
Do you want to learn more about the stories that soil and stones have to tell? Then join geology expert Harry Moore as he shares the tales of earth's rocky path to the present. On Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m. visitors will explore the rocks and quarries at Ijams Nature Center and go in search of clues to it's geologic past. Come early and meet hike leader, geologist and author Harry Moore (He'll have books to sell). Free to members, $5 for non-members. Please call (865) 577-4717, ext. 110 to register.

April Foolies, The Talent Show with a Twi$t is Saturday, March 30th, 7:00 PM at the Clayton Center
for the Arts. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $30 for VIP, which
includes general admission and a reception after the show with beverages
and heavy hors d'oeuvres. Tickets are available at The Gate, New Hope, and theClayton Center for the Arts.
- This year's acts include Alcoa and Maryville Kiwanis - a tribute to our
veterans, The Gate Crashers - a very special choir performance with
participants from The Gate, The Greg Carney Project - two
professionally-produced dance routines, Josh and Jarrod's Blues
Brothers Tribute - a set from their Pigeon Forge Memories Theater's
show, and Ben Young - a hilarious young up-and-coming magician who
will perform death-defying feats during his act.
- Laurel Wright, winner of the $100,000 Texaco Country Showdown, will
give a special guest performance.
- Hallerin Hilton Hill will MC event, and in between acts Sammy Sammy Sawyer will entertain the crowd with his tribute to Barney Fife.
The Gate, Gateway to Independence, assists young adults with special needs to achieve independence by providing social and vocational
activities, and New Hope Blount County Children's Advocacy Center
provides services to children and families experiencing the trauma of child abuse.
Tuesday, March 26th, starting at 5:30 PM at Sullivan's Downtown,
121 West Broadway Avenue, in Maryville. Pistol Creek Catch of the Day will perform a free all ages concert, and Sullivan's will have appetizer and burger specials all night.
Soles 4 Souls
The Earth Day festival in Oak Ridge will once again be kicking off its annual Soles4Souls shoe drive. In the last 2 years the Oak Ridge effort has collected 15,000 pairs of shoes for the non-profit organization based in Nashville. They clean and ship the shoes here and abroad.
Several schools in Anderson County and Knoxville as well as churches and businesses participate in the one month shoe drive that will end at an Earth Day festival on April 27.
A Soles4Souls benefit concert April 26th will help raise funds to clean and ship the shoes collected.
