Looking towards Newfound Gap.
The Spring snow is delaying the opening of Clingman's Dome Road in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
The Smokies received over 18 inches of snow this week in the higher elevations, including Clingmans Dome.
Clingmans Dome Road was supposed to open for the season on Friday, March 29th, but now likely won't open until early next week.
Park road crews are currently continuing efforts to open Newfound Gap Road from Sugarlands Visitor Center to Newfound Gap which has also been closed temporarily due to snow and ice. It's closed beyond Newfound Gap because of a rockslide.
For more information about road closures, please visit the Park's website atwww.nps.gov/grsm and or call the Park's Road and Weather Information Line at 865-436-1200.
