Phillip Fulmer will not be the head coach when East Tennessee State University resumes its football program, but he will be helping the Buccaneers get going.
Fulmer spoke at a news conference Tuesday afternoon, saying he would do whatever was needed to help the Bucs' program. His role is expected to involve fundraising.
ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Richard Sander said Fulmer's official title will be special assistant to the athletic director for football. He will be helping launch a new gridiron team. The program had an 80-year history, but disbanded following the 2003 season.
Fulmer is a College Football Hall of Fame inductee with a career that includes a national championship, two SEC titles and seven divisional titles at UTK.
