Parents, educators, and community leaders discussed setting a higher educational standard for kids in East Tennessee to better prepare them for the future.

"We want our children to be successful, we want our communities to be successful and our country. Basically the success of our economy and the future success of our children is based upon their education," said Allen Lutz.

SCORE, or the State Collaborative On Reforming Education, held a community conversation Wednesday evening. Their goal was to talk about the success students have achieved, but also areas of improvement.

Leaders listened to parents voice their concerns and laid out five priority areas of their own. Those were:

  • Keeping up on new policies in Tennessee
  • Having effective teachers in schools
  • Building strong school leaders
  • Enhancing and improving the use of technology in schools
  • Empowering parents
