A McMinn County couple is in trouble with the law, after their 10-month-old baby was found playing in a creek near their house.

On Tuesday, a woman called 911 after seeing the baby playing all alone in a creek near a residence on Thacker Lane in Etowah.  The woman said she got the child out of the water, went to the house, and knocked on the door.  When she got no response, she left the child in the yard and returned to her home.

However, she was watching the child, and called 911 when the baby returned to the creek.  When an officer arrived, he found the child in the creek and took the baby home, where he talked to the parents.

The mother, Elizabeth Freeman, told the officer she had told the child to stay in the yard before going back into the house, where she was fixing her hair.  The father, Matthew Freeman, was sitting on the couch talking to neighbors.  Neither parent knew their baby was gone.

The Freemans are charged with child neglect, and the Department of Children's Services was notified.
