On Friday, a social media convention instructed local businesses on how digital media can help them reach their customer base and revolutionize their operations.
Small and large local businesses ventured out to the Knoxville Convention Center to attend "Social Slam 2013." The convention showcased major players, like McDonald's, AT&T, the Chicago Bulls and the White Sox, and their successes implementing social media into their operations.
Xan Pearson, vice president of marketing for Bulls/Sox Academy, said social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are great ways to connect with his youth organization's stakeholders.
"We use social media as a way to connect with the parents, connect with our fans, and tell them this is what we're doing to build for the kids of tomorrow," said Pearson.
Pearson was just one of several keynote speakers who volunteered their knowledge on Friday.
Experts with fortune-500 companies said they're hoping to help East Tennessee businesses build their own voices in the social media sphere, so they can connect better with consumers.
