"Fit and Fun" taught parents and kids how to prevent childhood obesity through exercise and a healthy diet on Saturday.

Tennessee Wesleyan and Fort Sanders Nursing organized the event and said its mission was to get kids active and instill healthy habits into their daily routines.

Counselor Olivia Campbell said it's important to help kids form healthy habits because obesity can become a lifelong struggle.

"It's a huge issue, and we've noticed just even in the adult population, when you start out obese, you usually end up obese."
