A sea of spinning flowers will bring awareness to Child Abuse Prevention Month, which started last week.

A pinwheel garden will be on display on the main floor of the City County Building in Downtown Knoxville. The pinwheels represent the children born in Tennessee every year.

Child and Family Tennessee Manager Nicci Williamson also says the pinwheels are a promise of a good future.

"We plant pinwheels to represent the happy childhood that we hope these children attain," she said.

The Department of Child Services last year reported more than 7,000 children were victims of child abuse.
