After a cool start to spring, Tuesday's 80 degree weather finally brought out the pollen, irritating allergy sufferers.

All day Tuesday, you could literally see the pollen. With the warm, windy day, yellow pollen coated cars across East Tennessee. You've also probably noticed more and more trees are starting to bloom.

Dr. Bob Overholt with the Allergy and Asthma Center says his staff answered a lot of calls Tuesday about runny noses, itchy eyes and sneezing. He says it was a particularly bad day for people with allergies.

"When we looked at the pollen count today, we saw numerous different trees that are putting out their pollen. That's unusual. Usually you see three or four at a time. There's eight or nine trees that are putting their pollen out now, and right after this comes grass pollen. So beware if you've got spring allergies," said Dr. Bob.

Dr. Bob says he expects a "rough go of it" for the rest of the spring allergy season, too. He says tree pollen usually lasts through May, and grass pollen sticks around from May to June.

He says to keep symptoms down, stay inside on warm, windy days, and take your allergy medications daily.
