Belk department stores are celebrating 125 years of shopping by giving back to their communities.
Wednesday morning, Belk kicked off its campaign in Tennessee of 125 Days of Giving. Each Belk store has partnered with a local elementary school.
The Belk at West Town Mall will collect books and has plans to build bookshelves and help out where needed at West Haven Elementary School.
Belk says a big part of the family-owned company is philanthropy, and they hope shoppers see how much they want to give back to the communities who support them.
"To me it sounds like loyalty. I can stand behind that company, they will deliver on products and service and I can count on them. So, I think it's sort of a reputation, but it brings loyalty I think," said Regional Vice President Dixie Minatra.
The BelkGives on the Go mobile mammogram van will visit Knoxville Tuesday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 1. Women 40 and over who have not had a mammogram in the past year may call call 855-655-2662 to make an appointment for a free mammogram.
