A TBI investigation has been requested to look into animal abuse allegations at the Campbell County animal shelter, according to Campbell County Mayor William Baird.
Baird says no allegations could be substantiated from an internal
investigation conducted by the mayor's office, the sheriff's office and
the district attorney general's office, but they say they believe it
will be beneficial for an outside organization to investigate.
The Adrian Baird Animal Center has been under fire for allegations of
abuse. A YouTube video that's received tens of thousands of hits brought the
issue to a head. It claims the dogs are euthanized too quickly
and inhumanely. A warning, some people might consider some of the pictures in the video disturbing.
A 10News investigation found the shelter was not using the recommended procedures or dosage of euthanasia drugs.
Former shelter director Betty Crumley acknowledges she is the focus of the controversy.
The animal shelter remains closed and all employees have been placed on administrative leave.
