It was a homecoming parade more than four decades in the making.

On Tuesday, Pigeon Forge hosted the Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans parade.  For those veterans, it was long overdue.  When they returned from that controversial war, their commanding officers told them not to even wear their uniforms, because they would not be welcomed home.

That all changed on Tuesday.

More than 480 veterans from all branches of the military signed up to be a part of the parade, and organizers say even more showed up to march.

The patriotic parade passed down the Parkway, the streets lined with spectators, waving American flags, yelling thank yous and welcome homes, and some even shedding a few tears.

For both the veterans and the spectators, it was an emotional moment, long overdue.
