After hours of silence, members of the Knoxville-area Gay Straight Alliance spoke up. They took part in the National Day of Silence, a day to focus on the bullying of some lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people face.
After staying quiet all day, they broke the silence with a night of noise.
"We're trying to bring awareness to the oppression and the harassment that students face on a day-to-day basis. Yes bullying and the whole problem across the nation has gotten better, but it's not anywhere where it should be. It still happens and we're still trying to help make it better."
Friday's event also offered information for different services and resources on campus.
