An East Tennessee university is the first in the state to receive special recognition for its efforts to be bicycle friendly.
Lincoln Memorial University received silver level recognition as a bicycle friendly university from the League of American Bicyclists.
Last August the university used grant money to start a free bicycle check-out program for students, faculty and staff. LMU also added bicycle lanes to campus roads and improved bicycle parking at most buildings and residence halls.
The bike check-out program is available on weekdays from 8 to 4:30 at the student center. A campus ID is required. The bikes can be borrowed for a 24 hour period.
