Some Knoxville area volunteers are helping victims of the ongoing flooding across parts of the Midwest. The Red Cross East Tennessee region has deployed 13 volunteers to provide relief.
They're joining hundreds of others to provide food supplies and emotional support.
Blount County volunteer Peter O'Neill says he's going door to door in Chicago helping with disaster assessments. Just last week he was helping tornado victims in Mississippi. He says the work comes naturally.
"It's the way that I go about helping people. Whenever there's a disaster, the first words out of my wife's mouth and we've been married 40 years is 'When are you leaving?'" said O'Neill.
He says he has no idea how long he'll stay in the Midwest, but says he'll keep assisting flood victims as long as he's needed.
